| Again and again we hear of disco-goers or party guests being secretly slipped so-called knockout drops in spiked drinks. In particular sexual offenders use these narcotics – also called “rape drugs” – to render women and girls defenceless. The impact of these drugs is terrible: first of all they deactivate a person’s will and finally physically incapacitate them completely. On waking up the person affected usually remembers nothing or only very little about the last few hours. In combination with alcohol there can be other nasty side-effects such as vomiting, cramps or even breathing dysfunctions. |

Rape crises centres throughout Germany have been receiving more and more calls for help from women and girls who have been raped under the influence of knockout drops or other such drugs. Apart from general counselling and care of the victims, the association Frauenhorizonte offers further awareness training on this topic. The Auerbach Foundation supports Frauenhorizonte in their work of making the women and girls aware of the dangers and communicating certain rules and safety precautions to prevent the offenders even getting a chance.
