| “Kind in Düsseldorf” (KiD) is an in-patient unit with 18 places for children between the ages of four and twelve. KiD takes in children where there is a suspicion that they have been emotionally, physically or sexually abused. The KiD team includes psychologists, educators, social workers, sociologists, remedial teachers, nurses and child care workers. Their main objective is to develop new prospects for the children’s young life. Traumatic experiences are dealt with and treated. Apart from the actual examinations and treatment, great importance is attached to providing a stable everyday life. |

Kindergartens, schools and community recreation facilities are also incorporated to give the children a feeling of security and an emotional haven. KiD provides psychotherapy for children and youths, and also individual, couple’s and family therapy. If, after the treatment in the unit, a child is not able to return to his or her own family another solution will be found. If further therapeutic measures are required KiD takes care of finding a suitable follow-up therapy. With the support of the Auerbach Foundation these children get help in realising their new hopes for life.
