Journalism for kids is no child’s play.

Kultur & Spielraum e.V. - Journalism for kids is no child’s play.

An urban society needs well informed readers – from the word go. The children’s newspaper “Spitzer” is a joint production by children and professional journalists. It informs the Munich kids on the what’s happening and current topics in their own language. And this not only restricted to local activities but also on a national basis. With the help of “Spitzer” the Munich kids can communicate with one another and campaign for their own rights. Regardless of the family background, the Munich children’s newspaper provides easy access to the social and cultural life of the city. “Spitzer” ensures that the children have an active part in this social life.   “Spitzer” is directed at all young Munich residents from the age of eight and appears four times a year. With an edition of 60,000, copies are distributed free of charge to all schoolchildren from Grade 2 – 6. Teachers often use the newspaper during lessons when they are dealing with current topics. The advantage is that “Spitzer” not only encourages reading, but also writing and getting involved in the making of a newspaper. The kids can help at any time either in the regular children’s editorial department or at one of the mobile newspaper workshops. The result – sponsored by the Auerbach Foundation – is available in the City Information Office in the Town Hall, in the Children’s Museum and in many other cultural, children’s and youth facilities.
