Courage to say “NO!”: a children’s book on “sexual abuse”.

Ich-bin-mutig.de - Courage to say “NO!”: a children’s book on “sexual abuse”.

More than 80 percent of the cases of sexual assault on children are carried out by relatives or acquaintances, i.e. by people the children know. Children cannot be safeguarded from sexual abuse by warning them about talking to or going with strangers. A more effective protection measure is if children know what other persons are not allowed to do. Since there are so many forms of sexual abuse it is very important that the children are made aware of this at an early age. Our children have to be able to quickly assess when a situation is threatening. To overt any worse consequences children have to be able to defend themselves and learn to say No.

For adults it is very difficult to find an approach to this very sensitive topic. The book "STOPP! Du darfst das nicht!" [Stop! You’re not allowed to do that!] gives parents the opportunity of talking to their children about this at ease and without any concrete reason. Manuela Beckert’s book deals with children’s feelings, good secrets and bad secrets, persons of trust and self-assertion and courage. As a police officer who works in the field of enquiries into sexual abuse of children, she manages to get the message over to the children in an interesting way and also in such a way that they can understand and apply these measures. The Auerbach Foundation supports this project that effectively helps children to protect themselves.

About the Auerbach Foundation

The aim of the Auerbach Foundation is to provide help and support for people on a lasting basis.

To be able to grasp a situation we first have to understand it. And with this understanding we can, within the scope of our project funding, provide an impetus, and that is the first step in helping people to help themselves.

With its charitable and social donations the Auerbach Foundation minimises financial, spiritual, mental and physical hardship. It also seeks to create avenues for art, culture and science and, in doing so, to safeguard values, such as security and creativity.

In concrete terms this means:
  • Funding people:
youth aid, aid for the old, aid for the disabled, development aid
  • Funding education and socialisation
  • Funding science and research
  • Funding art and culture
The Auerbach Foundation was founded in 2005 by the Avira GmbH partner, Tjark Auerbach and finances its projects from donations.

Anyone buying the software Avira AntiVir Premium or Avira Premium Security Suite in the Avira online shop, makes a contribution of five euros per product to the Foundation projects.

In 2008 a total of approximately € 800,000 will go to benefit social and cultural projects.
