Learning new skills with GENESIS.

Freundeskreis Wichernhaus Altdorf - Learning new skills with GENESIS.

Children and youths with physical disabilities have certain limitations in what they can do, so they often rely on external help in learning and playing. The objective of the educational and game software GENESIS is to provide this help for people with disabilities. GENESIS opens up a whole new world of games and experience for the children and young adults. However, the focus of this new world is here not only on the individual, but also on an integrative learning process among people with and without disabilities. The games not only highlight differences and common features, but also allow the players to learn and experience tolerance, esteem and valuation.

Once a week the pupils of the vocational school in the special education centre for children with physical disabilities in Wichernhaus Altdorf play with and against one another. They plan the games together, and in playing they have fun together – or, if necessary, get really annoyed about one another. What’s important, is that they get to know one another from a different point of view. The GENESIS programmes are not only leisure activities, they provide a priceless contribution to the development of unknown skills which, despite severe physical or linguistic disabilities, are in place. The Auerbach Foundation supports the Freundeskreis des Wichernhauses Altdorf by providing a qualified software communication specialist.

About the Auerbach Foundation

The aim of the Auerbach Foundation is to provide help and support for people on a lasting basis.

To be able to grasp a situation we first have to understand it. And with this understanding we can, within the scope of our project funding, provide an impetus, and that is the first step in helping people to help themselves.

With its charitable and social donations the Auerbach Foundation minimises financial, spiritual, mental and physical hardship. It also seeks to create avenues for art, culture and science and, in doing so, to safeguard values, such as security and creativity.

In concrete terms this means:
  • Funding people:
youth aid, aid for the old, aid for the disabled, development aid
  • Funding education and socialisation
  • Funding science and research
  • Funding art and culture
The Auerbach Foundation was founded in 2005 by the Avira GmbH partner, Tjark Auerbach and finances its projects from donations.

Anyone buying the software Avira AntiVir Premium or Avira Premium Security Suite in the Avira online shop, makes a contribution of five euros per product to the Foundation projects.

In 2008 a total of approximately € 800,000 will go to benefit social and cultural projects.
