Practical subject matter makes for a smooth transition into working life for young men.
 |
The project “Production School Garz” by the "Christian Association of Youth Villages" (CJD) Garz offers young men an alternative way of achieving a school leaving certificate and qualifying for vocational training. In a production school the focus is on practical work involved in real customer projects. Unlike regular schools, the theoretical and practical contents of lessons are closely connected. The manufacture of products in various workshops and the processing of actual orders for external customers motivate the youngsters and build up their sometimes frayed self-confidence. They can also acquire key qualifications which greatly improve their chances for a successful transition into the working world. CJD Garz has been pursuing the idea of a production school since 2006 and thinking about setting up such a school on the Island of Ruegen based on a Danish model. Representatives from the Community for Work on Ruegen (ARGE) and the people responsible at CJD Garz agree that a production school here could play an important part in reintegrating the island’s young unemployed. With financial support from the Auerbach Foundation personnel resources could be financed to realise this project.
About the Auerbach Foundation
The aim of the Auerbach Foundation is to provide help and support for people on a lasting basis.
To be able to grasp a situation we first have to understand it. And with this understanding we can, within the scope of our project funding, provide an impetus, and that is the first step in helping people to help themselves.
With its charitable and social donations the Auerbach Foundation minimises financial, spiritual, mental and physical hardship. It also seeks to create avenues for art, culture and science and, in doing so, to safeguard values, such as security and creativity.
In concrete terms this means:
- Funding people:
youth aid, aid for the old, aid for the disabled, development aid
- Funding education and socialisation
- Funding science and research
- Funding art and culture
The Auerbach Foundation was founded in 2005 by the Avira GmbH partner, Tjark Auerbach and finances its projects from donations.
Anyone buying the software Avira AntiVir Premium or Avira Premium Security Suite in the Avira online shop, makes a contribution of five euros per product to the Foundation projects.
In 2008 a total of approximately € 800,000 will go to benefit social and cultural projects.
