My picture is worth more than a thousand words.
 |
Together with the Pestalozzi school for children with learning disabilities, the association Förderung Lernbehinderter e.V. in Ulm carried out a project based on an idea by “proyect wogama ltd.”. With working titles such as “My school and me”, “Not for all the money in the world” or “My future…” 10 schoolchildren literally put their thoughts to paper in the form of images. Working with different materials and techniques they discovered new skills in themselves and their fellow-pupils. These included putting the possibilities of teamwork to the test and expanding their verbal proficiency by expressing their appreciation or criticism. This artistic project advances the intellectual and emotional development of disadvantaged youngsters, boosts their self-esteem and helps them to assert themselves in society with more self-assuredness. It was sometimes a “bumpy ride” working with the schoolchildren, who are easily distracted and keen to regard any disturbance as fun. However, the pictures were only one element of the shared experience. In the discussions during the work the children were able to open up and started to speak about their situation in school and at home, their hobbies and grades. They talked about how they would like their life to be and their anxiety that everything might turn out to be quite different – starting off with trying to find a training post. An exhibition displayed not only the pictures but also photos and information on how these came into being. The Auerbach Foundation supported this project and provided the public with a little insight into the world of these young people - youngsters, who could certainly never say a thousand words in public – but their pictures can.
About the Auerbach Foundation
The aim of the Auerbach Foundation is to provide help and support for people on a lasting basis.
To be able to grasp a situation we first have to understand it. And with this understanding we can, within the scope of our project funding, provide an impetus, and that is the first step in helping people to help themselves.
With its charitable and social donations the Auerbach Foundation minimises financial, spiritual, mental and physical hardship. It also seeks to create avenues for art, culture and science and, in doing so, to safeguard values, such as security and creativity.
In concrete terms this means:
- Funding people:
youth aid, aid for the old, aid for the disabled, development aid
- Funding education and socialisation
- Funding science and research
- Funding art and culture
The Auerbach Foundation was founded in 2005 by the Avira GmbH partner, Tjark Auerbach and finances its projects from donations.
Anyone buying the software Avira AntiVir Premium or Avira Premium Security Suite in the Avira online shop, makes a contribution of five euros per product to the Foundation projects.
In 2008 a total of approximately € 800,000 will go to benefit social and cultural projects.
