A healthy start makes learning easier.
 |
A prerequisite for learning to full capacity is a healthy start to the day with a nourishing breakfast. This is unfortunately no longer a matter of course for many schoolchildren and that is why the Bertolt-Brecht Comprehensive School in the city of Löhne is addressing Grade 5 and 6 schoolchildren, in particular youngsters from a socially disadvantaged background whose diets are often insufficient and unhealthy. The school offers a reasonably priced breakfast with wholemeal products and fruit. The aim is to improve the kids’ health and with regular meals and thus increase their learning ability. Apart from the educational objectives of appreciating a balanced diet the association “Friends of the Comprehensive School” also wants to give the children the opportunity of having healthy and affordable meals in the school cafeteria. This also has the enduring effect that unbalanced diets can be avoided and, on a long-term basis, obesity and exercise restraints prevented. With a balanced diet the schoolchildren can experience their school life more actively. Thanks to the support of the Auerbach Foundation the cafeteria can employ the necessary skilled staff and the children can enjoy a healthy diet for more energy in life.
About the Auerbach Foundation
The aim of the Auerbach Foundation is to provide help and support for people on a lasting basis.
To be able to grasp a situation we first have to understand it. And with this understanding we can, within the scope of our project funding, provide an impetus, and that is the first step in helping people to help themselves.
With its charitable and social donations the Auerbach Foundation minimises financial, spiritual, mental and physical hardship. It also seeks to create avenues for art, culture and science and, in doing so, to safeguard values, such as security and creativity.
In concrete terms this means:
- Funding people:
youth aid, aid for the old, aid for the disabled, development aid
- Funding education and socialisation
- Funding science and research
- Funding art and culture
The Auerbach Foundation was founded in 2005 by the Avira GmbH partner, Tjark Auerbach and finances its projects from donations.
Anyone buying the software Avira AntiVir Premium or Avira Premium Security Suite in the Avira online shop, makes a contribution of five euros per product to the Foundation projects.
In 2008 a total of approximately € 800,000 will go to benefit social and cultural projects.
