Denk Ma(h)l! Think about it - Working up an appetite for more independence.
 |
The Order of Malta Volunteers in the Hamm area look after around 76 children and young people with mental disabilities in therapeutic communities. A particular focus here is on furthering relationship skills and everyday aptitude and constructing a daily routine. An important factor here is that the youngsters have regular activities. However, due to their health situation they can hardly hold a “normal” job or training position. With the project “Denk Ma(h)l!“ – a restaurant that offers good cuisine in a pleasant atmosphere – the young people are introduced to a structured daily routine step-by-step. With the help of experts from the gastronomic, therapeutic and educational sectors they can discover their own skills and talents. Whereas their everyday life is often characterised by weaknesses and deficits, here they can show their own individual talents and abilities. Thanks to the support of the Auerbach Foundation 15 jobs have been created in the kitchen and the service sector which, on a long-term basis, will help the youngsters gain more independence and make it easier for them to gain access to working life.
About the Auerbach Foundation
The aim of the Auerbach Foundation is to provide help and support for people on a lasting basis.
To be able to grasp a situation we first have to understand it. And with this understanding we can, within the scope of our project funding, provide an impetus, and that is the first step in helping people to help themselves.
With its charitable and social donations the Auerbach Foundation minimises financial, spiritual, mental and physical hardship. It also seeks to create avenues for art, culture and science and, in doing so, to safeguard values, such as security and creativity.
In concrete terms this means:
- Funding people:
youth aid, aid for the old, aid for the disabled, development aid
- Funding education and socialisation
- Funding science and research
- Funding art and culture
The Auerbach Foundation was founded in 2005 by the Avira GmbH partner, Tjark Auerbach and finances its projects from donations.
Anyone buying the software Avira AntiVir Premium or Avira Premium Security Suite in the Avira online shop, makes a contribution of five euros per product to the Foundation projects.
In 2008 a total of approximately € 800,000 will go to benefit social and cultural projects.
