Theatre to Feel and Hear for the Blind.
 |
Blind people are only able to be involved in a rather limited way in cultural life. This would be the case, were it not for Verein Hörfilm e.V. (Audio Films for the Blind Association), the Philharmonic orchestra and the City of Heidelberg Theatre. They performed the inaugural performance of the operetta “Mrs. Luna” (Frau Luna) in Germany for blind and sight-impaired people. The blind audience are given wireless headphones, through which they hear descriptions of the acting, the stage setting and the clothing and facial expressions of the actors during the breaks in singing and talking. The Auerbach Foundation supports the Audio Film for the Blind Association’s professional working group, consisting of two seeing and one blind writers. The accompanied description of performances provided by the association provides barrier-free access to television, cinema, DVDs, theatre and museums. They are also campaigning throughout Germany to ensure that sight-impaired people do not feel further marginalised so that cultural events become a matter of course for them.
About the Auerbach Foundation
The aim of the Auerbach Foundation is to provide help and support for people on a lasting basis.
To be able to grasp a situation we first have to understand it. And with this understanding we can, within the scope of our project funding, provide an impetus, and that is the first step in helping people to help themselves.
With its charitable and social donations the Auerbach Foundation minimises financial, spiritual, mental and physical hardship. It also seeks to create avenues for art, culture and science and, in doing so, to safeguard values, such as security and creativity.
In concrete terms this means:
- Funding people:
youth aid, aid for the old, aid for the disabled, development aid
- Funding education and socialisation
- Funding science and research
- Funding art and culture
The Auerbach Foundation was founded in 2005 by the Avira GmbH partner, Tjark Auerbach and finances its projects from donations.
Anyone buying the software Avira AntiVir Premium or Avira Premium Security Suite in the Avira online shop, makes a contribution of five euros per product to the Foundation projects.
In 2008 a total of approximately € 800,000 will go to benefit social and cultural projects.
