Wendepunkt - Working with girls at Wendepunkt e.V.

Wendepunkt e.V. (lit. Turning point) – an advice centre in Freiburg (Breisgau) has taken on that responsibility. If offers boys and girls protection from sexual abuse and educates them on the subject. Widely-held views and advice often mean well but can lead to a heightened level of fear and feelings of uncertainty amongst children.

Conventional advice can often run along the following lines: - Your family is there to protect you - There is your weird and wicked uncle - Don’t struggle, it’s too dangerous - Don’t dress too provocatively

Children need encouragement to trust their own perceptions. They have to learn that they have a right to self-determination about their own bodies and they need to receive a clear message that it is good to put up a fight and also to seek help. The Auerbach Foundation became aware of the involvement of Wendepunkt e.V. and its radical, preventative protection against sexual abuse. By receiving continuous support, Wendepunkt can offer performances of the play and other preventative measures much more cheaply.

The theatrical performance of “Get lost Fear” has been of valuable assistance to many schools: teachers and adults have become sensitised to this subject and the self-awareness amongst the children has been reinforced. Inner strength is always the most effective protection for children.

About the Auerbach Foundation

The aim of the Auerbach Foundation is to provide help and support for people on a lasting basis.

To be able to grasp a situation we first have to understand it. And with this understanding we can, within the scope of our project funding, provide an impetus, and that is the first step in helping people to help themselves.

With its charitable and social donations the Auerbach Foundation minimises financial, spiritual, mental and physical hardship. It also seeks to create avenues for art, culture and science and, in doing so, to safeguard values, such as security and creativity.

In concrete terms this means:
  • Funding people:
youth aid, aid for the old, aid for the disabled, development aid
  • Funding education and socialisation
  • Funding science and research
  • Funding art and culture
The Auerbach Foundation was founded in 2005 by the Avira GmbH partner, Tjark Auerbach and finances its projects from donations.

Anyone buying the software Avira AntiVir Premium or Avira Premium Security Suite in the Avira online shop, makes a contribution of five euros per product to the Foundation projects.

In 2008 a total of approximately € 800,000 will go to benefit social and cultural projects.
