New opportunities at Gut Glüsig.
 |
Gut Glüsig is a farm estate situated idyllically on the edge of the Magdeburger Boerde. Farm work at Gut Glüsig has a very long tradition, that has been continued by Caritasverband Magdeburg since 1992. The cultivation of the farm has since been changed over to organic farming in line with the ecological Bioland guidelines and also combined with social occupational projects. In 2002 the Caritasverband Magdeburg e.V. opened a residential home for 30 mentally disabled persons close to the farm estate. The residents of the home now work on the farm Gut Glüsig. Their work on the estate includes gathering wood, raking leaves and keeping the farmyard clean and tidy. This way, they get help in discovering a more independent lifestyle and a new purpose in life. The employment of mentally disabled people is very challenging since their work performance depends very much on their form on any particular day. Employing mentally disabled people in private enterprises can only be done with very skilled guidance. In future the Caritasverband Magdeburg would like to support and advance every single resident in his or her development. The objective is that, with a job outside Gut Glüsig they can also find and use new opportunities for their own future. This requires in the forefront extensive supervision and guidance which, thanks to the Auerbach Foundation, can be provided by the Caritasverband Magdeburg.
About the Auerbach Foundation
The aim of the Auerbach Foundation is to provide help and support for people on a lasting basis.
To be able to grasp a situation we first have to understand it. And with this understanding we can, within the scope of our project funding, provide an impetus, and that is the first step in helping people to help themselves.
With its charitable and social donations the Auerbach Foundation minimises financial, spiritual, mental and physical hardship. It also seeks to create avenues for art, culture and science and, in doing so, to safeguard values, such as security and creativity.
In concrete terms this means:
- Funding people:
youth aid, aid for the old, aid for the disabled, development aid
- Funding education and socialisation
- Funding science and research
- Funding art and culture
The Auerbach Foundation was founded in 2005 by the Avira GmbH partner, Tjark Auerbach and finances its projects from donations.
Anyone buying the software Avira AntiVir Premium or Avira Premium Security Suite in the Avira online shop, makes a contribution of five euros per product to the Foundation projects.
In 2008 a total of approximately € 800,000 will go to benefit social and cultural projects.
