Go-ahead for more independence.

HPCA Bildungswerk - Go-ahead for more independence.

HPCA stands for the Heilpädagogische Centrum Augustinum [Therapeutic Educational Centre] in Oberschleissheim. Here some 80 various further education courses are on offer specially geared towards people with learning disabilities. The aim is to provide the participants with more independence and, in this way, more quality of life in their day-to-day routine. A unique model project in Munich – “Cycle Mobility Training” was sparked off by an idea of four people with learning disabilities. Two students of special needs education from the Ludwig-Maximilian University are involved in this project.

First of all a theoretical concept was worked out, taking into consideration findings from special and therapeutic education. With individual supervision in theory and practice the people with learning disabilities can learn how to participate in the Munich urban traffic by bicycle. The individual needs of the cyclists are catered for, so that their respective life situation can be enhanced. The aim at the end of the training is to master one cycle route – for instance the way to work. Thanks to the support of the Auerbach Foundation these people gain more independence and self-realisation in everyday life.

About the Auerbach Foundation

The aim of the Auerbach Foundation is to provide help and support for people on a lasting basis.

To be able to grasp a situation we first have to understand it. And with this understanding we can, within the scope of our project funding, provide an impetus, and that is the first step in helping people to help themselves.

With its charitable and social donations the Auerbach Foundation minimises financial, spiritual, mental and physical hardship. It also seeks to create avenues for art, culture and science and, in doing so, to safeguard values, such as security and creativity.

In concrete terms this means:
  • Funding people:
youth aid, aid for the old, aid for the disabled, development aid
  • Funding education and socialisation
  • Funding science and research
  • Funding art and culture
The Auerbach Foundation was founded in 2005 by the Avira GmbH partner, Tjark Auerbach and finances its projects from donations.

Anyone buying the software Avira AntiVir Premium or Avira Premium Security Suite in the Avira online shop, makes a contribution of five euros per product to the Foundation projects.

In 2008 a total of approximately € 800,000 will go to benefit social and cultural projects.
