Trauerland, Zentrum für trauernde Kinder und Jugendliche e. V., offers grieving children and their families help in the course of their mourning. After the death of someone close many children deny their feelings of grief. To avoid putting more strain on the other bereaved family members they often take on tasks they are too young to cope with. In the Trauerland bereavement groups the children have the possibility of getting to know other children with similar experiences. Here they have a chance of talking about their feelings and finding an open ear for the entire scope of their bereavement.
In the groups they can live out their bereavement, act as they want to and find the topics they want to deal with. These groups are to help avoid consequences of bereavement that hasn’t been properly dealt with, such as aggression or mental-emotional disorders. Educationalists, psychologists and trained volunteers are also there for the individual bereavement of the children. This educational and psychological supervision helps the children and young people on their own personal journey through bereavement. Thanks to the Auerbach Foundation one of the eleven bereavement with some 15 places has been secured for the next two years.
