Encounter with pavement art.
 |
The project “begegnungs_straßen” [Streets of encounter] opened up a whole new dimension of communication and exchange between sighted, visually impaired and blind children. All the children of the 53 schools and facilities for the blind and visually impaired in Germany, as well as the primary school children (Grade 1 - 6) in Berlin were invited to join in. The pavement art can be drawings, collages or small models. The only condition being that the result must be able to be experienced with the sense of touch, i.e. it must have strong, clear contours. The interesting thing about the idea of Kinderstrasse e.V. is that all the works of art are presented vis-à-vis, can be combined and also complement one another. The “tactile” pictures by the sighted and blind children will be shown in a major exhibition in the Kleisthaus in Berlin, so that they can be experienced by all. Blindfolded, the sighted children explore the pictures of the blind children with their fingertips. This way they get their own, new experience of how a blind person makes his way through the day. In an audio workshop the children describe their work of art in their own words. The visually impaired and blind children feel their way round the street models with the thoughts of the sighted children, again experiencing something quite new. The exchange between unknown worlds is made possible by the sponsorship of the Auerbach Foundation.
About the Auerbach Foundation
The aim of the Auerbach Foundation is to provide help and support for people on a lasting basis.
To be able to grasp a situation we first have to understand it. And with this understanding we can, within the scope of our project funding, provide an impetus, and that is the first step in helping people to help themselves.
With its charitable and social donations the Auerbach Foundation minimises financial, spiritual, mental and physical hardship. It also seeks to create avenues for art, culture and science and, in doing so, to safeguard values, such as security and creativity.
In concrete terms this means:
- Funding people:
youth aid, aid for the old, aid for the disabled, development aid
- Funding education and socialisation
- Funding science and research
- Funding art and culture
The Auerbach Foundation was founded in 2005 by the Avira GmbH partner, Tjark Auerbach and finances its projects from donations.
Anyone buying the software Avira AntiVir Premium or Avira Premium Security Suite in the Avira online shop, makes a contribution of five euros per product to the Foundation projects.
In 2008 a total of approximately € 800,000 will go to benefit social and cultural projects.
