Aktion Bücherwurm - Bookworm Campaign: opening up the wonderful world of reading from an early age.
 |
Learning aptitudes and abilities are developed in early childhood. Therefore, promoting bilingualism or multilingualism means starting this at a very early age. Books are the ideal medium for getting children to speak. Reading is not only fun, it encourages a better faculty of speech and expressiveness. Problems and conflicts can be more easily formulated, communicated to other people and solved together. Browsing in books and reading during school breaks, free periods or leisure time arouses an interest for one’s own language and for foreign languages. And this shared enthusiasm leads to a dialogue between the children, teenagers and adults – something in common between the generations. With their “Bookworm Campaign” Julia e.V. shows parents and anyone else interested that reading is one of the easiest ways of improving children’s educational opportunities. By combining various languages the benefits of multilingualism are also fostered. And the right place for this is a lively reading area and media centre that offers lots of imaginative activities. Here Julia e.V. offers children, parents and teachers interesting and age-appropriate books, CDs and DVDs. The Auerbach Foundation supports this project to increase pleasure in reading, encouraging a lifelong further education of children.
About the Auerbach Foundation
The aim of the Auerbach Foundation is to provide help and support for people on a lasting basis.
To be able to grasp a situation we first have to understand it. And with this understanding we can, within the scope of our project funding, provide an impetus, and that is the first step in helping people to help themselves.
With its charitable and social donations the Auerbach Foundation minimises financial, spiritual, mental and physical hardship. It also seeks to create avenues for art, culture and science and, in doing so, to safeguard values, such as security and creativity.
In concrete terms this means:
- Funding people:
youth aid, aid for the old, aid for the disabled, development aid
- Funding education and socialisation
- Funding science and research
- Funding art and culture
The Auerbach Foundation was founded in 2005 by the Avira GmbH partner, Tjark Auerbach and finances its projects from donations.
Anyone buying the software Avira AntiVir Premium or Avira Premium Security Suite in the Avira online shop, makes a contribution of five euros per product to the Foundation projects.
In 2008 a total of approximately € 800,000 will go to benefit social and cultural projects.
